Mothers in Slience
2008
Embroideried pillow
18"X15"X3" (each)
I investigate why South Korea is the forth place of exporting babies in the world: I found the women’s stories who have to send their babies to the adoption center, which are usually written as unknown because of South Korea’s cultural belief. The women who give up their babies are regarded as taboo—bad mother or sexually immoral woman. As society treats these women as the others, they have to be remained in silence if they do not want to be blamed. As embroidering their stories on the pillow cover, I attempted to document their hidden stories and reveal their feelings.
